we went over to Joann's and picked out some fabric and materials and headed over to a local pizza joint, Rocky's Pizza, for some lunch. it was pretty yummy although it was our second choice. we wanted to go to this place called the Rhubarb House, but we got there 15 minutes before they were closing. Lacey and i know each other through work and being in the food industry, decided not to go in and rain on their parade. we both cringe when people come into the restaurant some odd minutes before we close and stay well passed closing time. some of you might ask "why the bad 'tude about late customers? you work in a restaurant. that's what you're there for. you get paid for that" that's true and all, but one thing you have to remember is servers, cooks, and hostesses have lives too! we all look forward to getting off work at a decent hour, and when someone comes in ruins that, it's messes up your whole night...so Rocky's it was.
with two full stomach, one eager student, and one very nervous teacher, we got started on our project a little after we got back to my place. here's what happened...
everything went smoothly (other than a couple of glitches on my part...like forgetting how to make the dang thing. it's been a while) until my sewing machine started acting like a big ol' BRAT! luckily we were almost at the finish line when that happened, so we decided to hand stitch the rest of the case.
next week we're getting together again to try something new. we're going to make a camera strap from a tutorial that i found online a couple of days ago. i'm pretty excited that we'll be learning together instead of me teaching. and this time, maybe we'll have two sewing machines instead of one moody one.
oh, and did i tell you Lacey is a photographer and a fellow blogger! check out her adventures with her lady kitty Hibou, here...and while you're at it, look at some of her work here! we have a bunch of ideas lined up as far as crafting and photography are concerned, so i'll have much more to blog about once they come up. it's going to be fun!

while looking at reviews for sewing machines online I found this little comment:
I read a lot of the reviews from people who said the thread was jamming. It is easy to avoid. When you thread this or any other sewing machine you have to make sure the presser foot is UP. If it is down the tension is engaged and the thread doesn't get in between the tension parts so it will birdsnest on the bobbin side. There you go, sewing machines 101.
think that might have been our problem or no?
also...look what I bought :)

and plus! I got my old sewing machine open!
Ok....spill the beans. Where is Rhubarb House? with a name like that it sounds like a winner.
