sewing semi-circle part deux

ok, so Monday, Lacey came over for another round of our craft semi-circle. this time, we were successful at shopping on a time crunch and making it to the Rhubarb House for lunch. look at what i had...umm! yummy chicken salad sandwich on croissant with some homemade chips and fruits. Lacey had a chicken mozzarella sandwich i think. it was huge and probably had half of a chicken in it, but she said it was yummy none the less.

after watching a guy getting pulled over by a bicycle police, but not really seeing how it actually happened (did the policeman wave him down? how did the driver know he was pulled over?), we decided it was time for us to start our projects.
a mural on the side of a building downtown. we can't seem to figure out if the person with the finger sticking out is an old lady, an old man, or a preacher.

this week's project was to make a camera strap. a couple of weeks ago, i found this seemingly simple tutorial, and thought it would be perfect for us to try. for some reason, we decided to go against the tutorial, and improvise. now thinking about it, i think we didn't follow the instructions because we wanted our straps to be a strap, not just a cover like the one from the tutorial.

anywho, after about three and a half hours of working on a piece of fabric strip, we were ready to throw in the towel. fed up with even looking at it (don't you get like that sometimes?), we managed to pull it toghether and crossed the finish line. Lacey sewed her fabric onto her strap and got crazy with some zig-zag stitches while i finished mine by hand. i used some fusible webbing (i think that's what it's called) for some added support and thought i'd measured very well, but i guess not cause my fabric barely fit! i had to seriously stretch the crap out of it, so the padding ended up useless, to sew it together at the end...and in the end, mine ended up being just a cover (like i can slide in off my strap). lets just say, we'll have to practice a bit more.

here's some pictures of what we, actually I, did...(this time i didn't get much of Lacey since we were both concentrating on our own stuff)
see here, i thought i measured correctly
we were busy taking pictures of one anotheri used purple thread for the accent.
before using the whip stitch to finish the strap, i sewed wavy lines on the strap to jazz it up a little

i was stylin' at the zoo while taking pictures yesterday. the only thing was that it was a bit too stiff (because i had to stretch it to fit). i'll post the picture of the finished strap another time (i forgot, i'm sorry). now i have to go and work on some crafts. i'll blog more about the zoo after i get home from work. have a great day!
