cupcake challenge

do you ever crave something for weeks? well, i have been craving cuppycakes...specially red velvet.

today, J and i visited two cupcakeries in Georgetown and had a mini cupcake challenge!! even a little birdy came to play! after getting together for a little lunch, we started off at Georgetown Cupcakes (where the line stretched outside). the storefront sits in a little space, has one table, and is lined with cupcakes and boxes to pre ordered boxes. oh yea, and it smelled SO good!!

Becky and i tried the red velvet while J had the vanilla2 (squared). usually J dislikes creamcheese icing, but he was actually pretty happy with his cupcake. our's was moist and just the right amount of sweetness. it was yummy!!...oh! and i went back and bought more to bring home: 2 more red velvet, caramel apple, and chocolate mint. my breakfast will be so tastely!
next up we went to Baked and Wired to try their red velvet. the place also offers coffee and other sweets and has a very hip feel to it. Baked's cupcakes were bigger, but it was a little too sweet for my taste. if i wasn't so full, i would have also tried the blueberry/lemon cupcake...oh well, maybe next time.

Becky actually suggested we do a 'cupcake tour/challenge' for a future date (the Washington Post actually did one of their own last year and i followed it every wednesday). any one up for an all day cupcake eating fest? ...and then dance it all off afterwards? Oh Ginger are you in?

Um, I WOULD LOVE TO! I have never had, and really want to have, a peanut butter and jelly cupcake. :-)

Oh my gosh, Pang! I'm pretty sure you're heading out to the Seattle area for your Plush You stuff, and when you do, you HAVE to try to make time for a place called Trophy Cupcake! They have three locations around Seattle, and their menu changes each day. I LOVE their lemon coconut cupcakes, and their regular chocolate cupcakes with vanilla icing are pure heaven! They also have Red Velvet, Chai Cardamom, Chocolate Graham Cracker, and lots more fun recipes. Hope you're able to visit!
