Hooray!

well folks, looks like the Lovebirds sent to Meet Me at Mike's finally made it! i was reading through my usual list of blogs and there they were! in the picture, sitting on a park bench with other softies!...just to let you know, most of the softies made for the Softies for Mirabel cause will be auctioned off on the 27th of July on EBay. that means go bid for something! i know i will!

another exciting news (well, for some)...Hillary Clinton came to She-town today! (and ended up being almost an hour late for her own speech!) it seemed like everyone was out and about: several store owners closed their shops to attend the event, students and teachers from the local elementary school came, college kids, infants, dogs, and even a parrot (yes, the one i photographed in March). i took little C with me to the political hoopla and he totally got into it, well, the part where he got to see dogs and other kids. i was able to take some photographs, but couldn't get close enough because the stroller was too big to maneuver through the maze of bodies...sorry.

his parents are for Obama

the lonely Ron Paul supporter

i think it's safe to say that maybe the number of people who supported Obama outnumbered the ones who were there for Clinton

you can see more pictures that i took here. i do have to apologize again for not having better shots. being short wasn't my choice...all i could see was Clinton's forehead and up when the signs weren't blocking it!

anyway, because of all the excitement, little C didn't take his nap until four in the afternoon (his regular napping time is at 12:30!), and i had to work at the restaurant tonight...needless to say i'm feeling pretty exhausted. if it doesn't rain tomorrow we'll be going to Alexandria. i was commissioned to take some pictures of the trails and the historical bits of the town, so i'm really stoked. (how about that?!?) i'm crossing my fingers that the meteorologists predicted wrong. lets hope!

Zippidy-doo-dah!

...and off they went! the lovebirds got packaged and sent this morning! i ended up not getting a tracker on it cause it would have cost me close t0 $70! (yikes! i definitely didn't have that much on me)...so i settled for first class. the nice gentleman at the post office counter reassured me that it would get there fast and safe though. he said that most packages are flying now and there's plenty of flights going to Australia, so it would be there between 5-10 days. i'll really know when i get the email from Pip (Meet Me at Mike's). oh! they are finally done with a Softies for Mirabel button, so i'll be putting that up on the site as soon as the code is available. i hope everyone's having a great day!

the final product!

i guess i will be meeting the deadline i had set for myself after all...i finished the other half of the polka-dotted lovebirds tonight. there they are world!
these little guys are probably one of my favorites.

i also attached some paper tags to them in case they get auctioned off.

they'll be ready to ship off to Victoria, Australia tomorrow from She-town. i'll be keeping you updated on where the package is cause i'm planning on tracking it (this will be fun!). i'm so excited!

one down

i finished one of the softies that i'm making for the Mirabel Foundation last night. it turned out a bit larger than i had anticipated though, but i think someone would love it.

i added an extra touch to it by attaching a ribbon to the side... "something for you"

Rain, Rain, Go Away

occasionally, i like to turn my phone on silent and just sleep until my body can't take it anymore. today was definitely the day, especially with the rain...oh, the rain...where did the sun go?
such a dreary day it was

even though it was monsoonal around these parts, we weren't hindered by it. since we ended up not going to Philadelphia for the tattoo convention as planned, we went out to grab a few things.

i needed to go to an art supply store to get inspiration and supplies for the plush i'm making for Softies for Mirabel. while there, i also grabbed a few spools of ribbon and some rubber stamps for a little side project (more on that in a later post).

our next stop was to a discounted store called Ollie's. i absolutely love Ollie's for all of the books that they carry for a very low price...well...they carry a lot of other things for a very low price. anyway, i got a few children's books to add to my growing collection (a-hem, and by a few i mean nine...for only $25!). i'm a fiend for children's books. there's just something about them, the illustrations, the colors, the simplicity of it all that draws me to it.

here are some of the titles that i got...(for your curiosity)
  • Squids will be Squids by Jon Scieszka ("rhymes with Fresca") & Lane Smith
  • Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett & Ron Barrett
  • Animal Grossology by Sylvia Branzei
  • Gorilla! Gorilla! by Jeanne Willis & Tony Ross
  • Lu and the Swamp Ghost by James Carville, Patricia C. McKissack & David Catrow (an amazing illustrator)
  • Hello, Robots by Bob Staake
  • Mars needs Moms! by Berkeley Breathed
  • Baloney (Henry P.) by Jon Scieszka & Lane Smith (the duo responsible for the Stinky Cheese Man)
  • Science Verse by Jon Scieszka & Lane Smith (can you tell i love their books?)
as a child, i remember my mother reading to me quite a bit, especially pictured books and cartoons (Thai and Japanese ones)...and we would color together. i guess i got it from her, cause she still loves kiddie books...and that's probably who i got the crafty genes from too! you name it, she's tried it!...and speaking of crafts, once we got home, i got started on my sketches for the plush. the first few didn't really satisfy me (or JR), so i finally came up with these...a little girl and boy lovebirds.i haven't finished it yet, but here's a sneak peak at the goods. i seriously can't wait to get them done so i can ship them off to Australia. (i'm sort of aiming for Wednesday) i hope some lucky kids really love them! i know i do already!

Softies for Mirabel

i stumbled upon this last week, and i've been thinking a lot about it. i've been visiting Meet Me at Mike's blog for updates too, and i think i've decided to make something to send over there. it's for a really good cause and i think every child deserves to have something nice. i'll probably be starting some sketches tomorrow (i'm thinking about making two!), as well as keeping an update on it. check out the Softies for Mirabel group on Flickr and see if it's something you'd want to do! in the mean time, enjoy this beautiful day!
