oh no!

i'm totally devastated to find out that Craft will no longer be in print! i just started getting my subscriptions (signed up for it at Crafty Bastards) to it and it's really what i look forward to. here's what they had to say about the situation...

CRAFT: Volume 10 is our last issue in print

Two and a half years ago, inspired by the DIY creativity of a growing number of indie crafters, we launched CRAFT Magazine along with its companion website, Craftzine.com. Since then, we've become an integral part of the new craft community. We've been fully committed to encouraging more people to discover the joy of crafting.

All along, we have noticed that Craftzine.com has been growing steadily. At the same time, we've come to realize that there were more and more challenges in publishing CRAFT as a print magazine, especially with the costs of print and distribution rising, and diminishing interest among advertisers in print. So we've decided that Volume 10, our Celebrate Like Crazy issue, will be our last print issue and that the future of CRAFT is online. (CRAFT subscribers will be notified by email today of the changes and how to obtain a refund for their subscription. If we don't have your email, we will be sending you a letter by post.)

Creating a print magazine was a great pleasure for all of us on our amazing team, and we've appreciated the many readers who told us how much they enjoyed CRAFT. Our print magazine helped to gain recognition that craft is thriving today, more than ever. We're going online exclusively with CRAFT because that's where we can best reach and serve our audience.

On Craftzine.com, we have a talented team, led by Natalie Zee Drieu, who is returning from maternity leave. She's excited to expand our efforts online. We have a lot of work to do to bring the best of the magazine to the website but the team has started to pursue that goal. We will focus on bringing you more craft projects, just as the print magazine did but we'll be able to do so with greater frequency. We want CRAFT online to be visually appealing and easily accessible; we want it to be fun but also useful. CRAFT will continue to venture into new territory, creating projects that integrate high tech wizardry and high fashion.

I also want to assure you that craft and crafters will continue to be an important part of the program for Maker Faire. We have always regarded crafters as we do makers, a creative vanguard who are remaking the world in ways that are especially vital today. Also, we will continue to publish MAKE magazine in print. The closure of CRAFT in print allows us to focus our limited resources on growing a single DIY magazine instead of two.

As we've talked to some of CRAFT's contributors and advertisers about our decision, we felt that they understood why we made the decision. Nonetheless, the initial reaction is one of disappointment. I suspect many subscribers will feel the same way. However, as we talked about the future with all these stakeholders, they also became as excited as we are about the possibilities. I look forward to exploring what lies ahead. I hope you will join us as we share our deep interest in, and appreciation for, the diverse approaches to CRAFT on craftzine.com.

i'm still glad they will continue the magazine online, but it's just not the same. even though i follow their blog everyday, i still like to take the magazine and read it during down time. i will miss you Craft magazine on paper!!

i was completely wiped out!

...from Crafty Bastards that i took a blog hibernation...and all i did was shop! i can't imagine what the crafters themselves feel like.

i REALLY LOVED CB in DC. it was even bigger and better than the other bastard...with b boys and Thai food. of course, yours truly did take some pictures...

Craft and Make Magazines had a tent for people to preview their magazines and to make things...i made a button ring!
a Sarah Palin pin
pretty cool shirts. J and i both got a "Beards, not Bombs" shirt.
hair cutting in the middle of Crafty Bastards
she's got all of the bases covered
more pins...but i forgot who they belong to, i seemed to have misplaced the owner's card!
b boy battle...i got a really great seat right at the front of the circle!
i took like a hundred pictures of the dance off alone! can you tell i had a blast taking them? i also had a blast meeting various artists (like Heidi from My Paper Crane and Chris from ChrisCreatures), but i think my favorite meet was Becky from This Chickadee. would you have thought that we have been email-pals since the last Crafty Bastards?!?! how unlikely. and for a while J thought that i was going crazy and "emailing" no one. it was so nice to put a face to the name (cause she does a very good job at excluding herself from any pictures on her blog)...and did you notice from the picture above what she's posing with? well, if it isen't a PrettyLittleFings owl! finally, i got to give her something from the 100th post giveaway. i've been procrastinating!

anywho, NOW i get to show you the loot that i walked away with...
Remmers got something too! an octopus chew toy and she loves it. the poor thing isen't nice and fresh anymore.

what did you get?

You're such a Crafty Bastard!!!!

can you believe it? less than 24 hours till Crafty Bastard in DC! i'm super stoked! are you? we are treking up there with our CB partners in crime Lacey and her other half...and this time they are driving.

there are so many...and i mean...so many vendors to visit, so many things to remember to buy! i'm doing a little bit of early Christmas shopping (gotta get them early in our time of economic crisis, might not get a chance later!) and a bit of shopping for myself!

here are some of the things/artists i have my eyes on...

i love! This Chickadee's stuff! she's known for her cute aprons and platesmats, but i've got my eyes on this fabric bowl. i've got to see it in person...and i'm definitely getting this! it's a Chickadee/Dandelion Blu collab. FAB!

my favorite artist will also be there: My Paper Crane
i mean, look!
photo from mypapercrane's blog!
hmmm...which one of these pretties will be mine?

i got this at the CB back in June from Chris Creatures ...but i'm going to need more...for my Obama supporting friends.

somebody's gonna get a Wasabi Bar from Oliba Soaps.

i really love cards by Rhymes with Twee ...and if i mentioned that i saw it online, i will get a free gift with purchase. i love free!

Jenny Harada will be there!

i hope The Small Object brings her wooden people!

can i please get from Finch Metal?

i'm gonna make J get a hat from Rocks and Salt.

look at Jennyjen42!

Cleodee's
squids are adorable!

i have to make sure i check out Miss Alison's stuff.

alright! i think that's all. but just because some vendors weren't mentioned doesn't mean i won't be checking their booths out. i will be weaving in and out of them like a mad woman tomorrow. (i have to remember to wear comfy shoes!) you can check the vendor's list for yourselves here.

so if you're in the area, grab your green hat and come on over to Crafty Bastards!
