finally

tonight is my last 5 hour shift for Artomatic. i heard that the deconstruction (tonight) is a lot of manual work (last time, i thought that walking up and down 8 floors pushing a beverage cart was hard work!!)...lets just say i'll be real happy when it's all over. update REAL soon!

parting is such sweet sorrow

have you ever made (or owned) something that just saddens you when you part?? last week i sold/ship off my robot head i had made for Artomatic (write up coming soon!) to a fellow artist, Peter E. Harper.

i made J take one last picture before i packed it off...despite the smile, i felt a little sad. this piece was one of my favorites! i spent hours at the local hardware store looking for the perfect parts to match my sketch. i know it's in a loving home now though...sigh.

opening night at Artomatic on Friday was amazing. there were people everywhere even though we were there pretty late (although you can't tell from this picture cause it was taken right at closing time). there are lots of amazing artists there, so check it out, won't you?

i don't mean to be petty...

but i must clear my name. on Thursday, May 7th, i was scheduled to work my first volunteer shift at Artomatic. i showed up 15 minutes early with J to my 4:45 - 10 pm shift. J drove me there (as i do not drive) from our place, which is nearly two hours (don't forget traffic) from 55 M St. SE, the building in which Artomatic will be held this year. since it is quite a trip, i decided to kill two birds with one stone (as time is of the essence with two jobs) and asked J if he could help by painting my 8 x 8 wall while i was working my 5 hour shift.
yesterday, i posted a blog with pictures that were taken while i was working. i posted a picture of me painting a section of my wall underneath a picture of J painting the wall.

today, i received a comment on that post from an Artomatic Volunteer (i'm not sure if it's just one person or a group of people) that reads: "You are supposed to work on your shift, not set up your space. This sets a bad example for everyone else."

clearly, 'Artomatic Volunteer' did not know that i was indeed working on my shift. clearly they did not know that i walked circles around floor #4 introducing myself as the volunteer worker for the night, asking people (at maximum, 5 artists throughtout the spand of 5 hours) if they needed any help, and making sure they went into the right elevator with paint (this was indeed stressed many times).

we are all adults here and all i'm saying is please don't judge a book by it's cover, just because i had a picture of myself painting my wall, didn't mean i was abandoning my post and set up my wall all night. i was told that i was there to help people out with installation if they needed help. (and if you ask John the painter/architect on the 4th floor or anyone else that happened to be there that night, i'm sure they'll tell you that i bugged the crap out of them asking if they needed any help)...and to me, taking two minutes (litterally) out of my 5 hour shift to help paint wasn't a big deal and i had no idea it would be.

as a first time artist of Artomatic, it is an honor to be involved with something as incredible as this. why would i want to jeopardize my chances of being a part of it again? i know this post was unnecessary, but i felt like i needed to clear my name and the integrity of my art. i had no idea who to talk to, so i took the liberty of taking it to my personal blog, as that is where it began. no one wants to be a bad example, or be known as the person who ruins it for everyone else (trust me, i went to the orientation). its not cool. so lets get to the bottom of it before we make any more judgments, ok?

made for the Ballston Art & Crafts Market. this saturday is the opening day and we will be there, so come say hello!!

i'm very excited about this guy made for Artomatic 2009!!! tomorrow is my first official day of duty (all participating artists must work three shifts to make the show happen). i'll be helping other artists with their installation while J will be painting my wall (isen't he lovely? - plus, we kill two birds at once). this year marks the 10th year of Artomatic, so make sure you clear your schedule for a night and go check it out, won't you? it's sure to be one awesome show!

i'm been working my butt off for Artomatic. here's a quick peek at another piece i'm

i'm working with a couple of new hardware with this piece. (i spent an hour at the local mom & pops hardware store looking for parts and inspiration!) i'm pretty excited. can't wait to show you when it's done!

oh the weather!

i feel super exhausted today. i woke up an hour past my alarm (yikes) and i am feeling kind of sluggish. hmph!


i finally got a chance to upload some TTV photographs that i took (i definitely got some strange looks and questions about the contraption) on my day trip to DC. below are some of my faves.

and if you're wondering why i spent the day there, it's because your's truly is an Artomatic 2009 artist this year! remember when J and i accidentally found out about Artomatic during my Alexandria photo shoot last year? well, i promised myself i was going to do it this year, whether it be through photography or plush...and i am!

on sunday i had orientation and site selection, so afterwards i decided to visit a few museums afterwards...and it was a blast! i got lost in the National Gallery a couple of times while trying to find my way out and i even chilled at the 'pool' in the Sculpture Garden.


i have to work my first shift (that's how Artomatic is ran, each participant is required to sign up for three shifts of work) in a couple of weeks...maybe i'll make another day trip out of it. hmm
