check please!!

don't come to this show on an empty stomach! i did, and i really regretted it.

as you walk into the gallery, one of the first things you see is a huge bowl of chips. on a second glance you realize that these chips have faces on them and they aren't chips at all, but fabric in a crocheted bowl for gosh sakes! next to it is a cleverly made bowl of dip, equipped with chives and a toothy smile. the further you are in the gallery, you notice more food, but like the ones before, they aren't food at all. they were just things made to mimic food...some things were made out of fabric, some out of glass and beads, and some carved out of wood. no, you're not trapped in a colorful, yet torturous nightmare, you just walked into the Blue Plate Special show at the Washington County Arts Council gallery.

although the participating artists were sparse, the art itself was not. there was plenty to look at and plenty to talk about. what is that? how long did it take to make that? what was your inspiration? were some of the questions i was asked. my friend Katie did a really good job at tricking people with her chips. i know my mom had to examine a chip up close to know that it wasn't real. she also made some sushi that was to die for. some of her sushi pieces even had snaps in them so you can change the ingredients in it. clever, to say the least.

all together, i turned in three pieces: the King of Fruit (the durian), Finger Lickin' Good (a bucket of fried chicken), and Little Italy (a bowl of ravioli). i ended up selling the durian and was super stoked! people i had invited started showing up around the same time and it all turned out to be a great evening. i did end up taking a ton of pictures while the lighting was still good...
chips and dip anyone?
