Coast to Cote: week 28

banner from our project

another week has gone by and the weather is getting colder...

Coast to Cote: week 28
Pang: In it's second year, Freedom's Run Marathon has attracted so many people that they had to close the registration. Over 2500 people (I don't actually know the number but this was what I was told by locals and business owners) flocked into our little town over the weekend and ran their hearts out. C's mom participated in the 5K for the first time so I was on full babysitting duty. She finished under her goal and we were all so very proud of her accomplishment. later in the morning C, his sister, and I ran in the 1 mile Fun Run aimed towards kids. He was so shy and didn't want to run at first, but we definitely finished the race looking like real marathoners.

Lacey: Im going to be completely honest with you all. I cheated. I didn't take this picture this week. In fact...I didn't take ANY pictures this week.  I was lazy and spent all my free time cooking or with my nose shoved in a book. Next week I will try to redeem myself.

the reinstatement of Foto Fun Friday

i don't know if anybody ever enjoyed these, but i figured why not bring it back? if i wanted to bring routine back into my life, why not my blog? right? i mean, Shepherdstown is full of interesting stuff!

for instance, meet Weimer and his pet squirrel. her name is Mighty Mouse. he found her when she was a baby and has since raised her as a pet. Mighty Mouse pretty much goes everywhere with him (ie. hanging out underneath his hat and chilling in his book bag). as i was waiting for dinner one night, Weimer came up to us and asked if we wanted to see her. i couldn't help but seize the opportunity to snap a photograph

Might Mouse and her owner

i'm off to NJ/NY for the weekend to assist with photographing a wedding. it should be a really great experience and i was told the bride is super crafty! perhaps this wedding is right up my alley!

have a great one!

Foto Fun Friday: better late than never

awesome., originally uploaded by Pretty Little Fings.

i took this photo last week at the Blue Moon, one of my favorite live music spots in town. at first glance i was like "who are these people" then later realized how dense i had been for not recognizing it earlier.

drum set belongs to The Weights, a pretty awesome band from Brooklyn!

Hello, Happy Easter

the Speakeasy Boys

nice suit, Easter Bunnythe Speakeasy Boys

the weather has been amaze-balls!! the Easter Parade was nice, yet the smallest i've seen in all of the years i've lived here...but then again, i was a little preoccupied by the farmer's market.

today we went over to J's sister's house for some early dinner. i made pot roast (slow cooked it for more than 12 hrs in red wine...boy! it was delish!!) for the very first time. afterward, we came home and relaxed on the roof.

i hope everyone has had a great Easter!

Foto Fun Friday

met Matthew Lesko on the streets of Shepherdstown randomly...neato!

that's me and Matthew Lesko, the Question Mark guy. randomly, i met him while walking down German Street in Shepherdstown (you can find the most random things here sometimes). if i wasn't for the guy in front of me who litterally stopped Mr. Lesko from driving away, this moment would have never happened. and yep, that's a to go container in my arms...i was called into the restaurant to pick up some free food...what luck!!!

hope you all are having a great Friday!

Foto Fun Friday

i was scrolling through the photo album on my phone yesterday and remembered that i had taken this picture...

taken a while back on my phone. llks like it was photoshopped

this was taken around Christmas time when Santa "came to town." i guess the Grinch was there too, otherwise the Who's wouldn't have shown up. it was a cold cold day, so they started a bonfire right in the middle of town. this photo just looks completely photoshopped and just completely random.

i hope you all had a great Friday!

snow snow snow!!

we got hit hard! armed with my camera, i ventured out into the snow with a couple of trustee sidekicks. i focused on getting shots of German St. (the main strip in Shepherdstown) as the storm continued to pound us with snow for two days.

German Street around 5 p.m. on Friday
taken around 5 p.m on Friday (the first night). it had started snowing at 10 a.m, but didn't actually stick till a couple of hours had passed.

German Street around 7 or 8 p.m.
taken around 7 p.m. Brian and i stopped at the Press Room to warm up for a couple of hours. when we came out, it had gotten dark, but the road didn't look too bad...probably because it had been plowed a couple of times before.

German Street
taken around 1 or 2 a.m. by this time, most cars were buried in the snow. no plows haven't been seen for a couple of hours and the snow on the road was getting deep.

German Street on Saturday around 4:30
taken around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday after the storm had stopped. cars were definitely buried and people were walking around the streets, getting rid of their cabin fevers.

i also got other shots around town. we walked to the monument just before the sunset was it was gorgeous there. that trek definitely paid off.

steps

Potomac River before the sunset

fighting through the thigh deep snow (for me at least) to J's parent's house to dig them out.
we trekked through lots of snow (thigh high) to go dig J's parents out of their house. luckily, they had a good friend who came over with a snow blower...we definitely would not have been able to do it all by ourselves.

now there's a good possibility that another storm is on it's way and ready to dump nearly another foot on us! goodness gracious!

i love this town

every now and then, i am reminded of how much i enjoy being a local in Shepherdstown. today i saw:

only in Shepherdstown...am I wrong?

signs for a psychic fair (only in Shepherdstown?)...i was really curious so i checked it out! sure glad i did because i got to support my friend Elijah and his tea company.

Elijah & his tea

things i see in town
while taking out the trash, i saw a local teaching another how to repel...i think.

since the recession, the Christmas tree has had to work harder than ever...and it's not even Thanksgiving yet.
at the Sunday farmer's market, i saw a Christmas tree working hard to promote Christmas early. i guess the recession has hit every one.

funny looking thingy
funky looking parsnips

babies
and babies!!

hope your weekend was fun. i had two photo shoots in the last two days and i can't wait to show you a little preview. so exciting!

Funday Sunday

like i had mentioned a couple of days ago, i was commissioned to photograph a friend and her pups on Sunday...unfortunately, she had to reschedule. honestly i was a little bummed, but luckily, my cousin Kelly was coming visit anyway, so we made a day of it. she had never been to Shepherdstown before, so i took her for a walk and visited all of the shops and showed her some of my favorite spots.

one of my favorite places in town
(the Meck's garden. one of my favorite places)

talking about politics
(BK [Bar Kitteh] took my seat and started talking to Kelly about politics)

BK is a serious kitteh
(he was not happy when i asked for my seat back)

a view from the monument
(then we took a walk to the monument and enjoyed the view and talked some more)

the day was full of catching up and talking about our hobbies/business (Kelly has a budding cookie business). i was so glad she came over. does anyone else want a tour of Shepherdstown?

tea for 1 1/2

tea for 1 1/2

as my first day back to work treat, C and i went for some tea and scones at Shaharazade's, a local exotic tea room. i've been meaning to go there with Lacey, but have never quite made it, so since i'm still in the spirit of trying new things (like crumpets in Seattle), i thought i'd try some scones.
.
C wasn't really into it, but i loved it with fresh Devinshire cream and strawberry preserves...YUM!

on another note...i'm still in the process of moving the studio. wait! have i mentioned this?!? i'm moving the studio from a rented space back into the apartment and j and i are sharing a space...so i've been very slow at crafting...tonight we moved a few boxes and rearranged some things...ugh! how did i ever accumulate so much craft supplies!?!?! does that happen to you?...anywho...Seattle was very inspiring, so i can't wait to put everything in place and get to work.

now a good night's rest is in order (did you hear that j? stop chomping on ice while i'm sleeping!). lots of photos to load tomorrow. nighty!

Happy 3rd Birthday!

what a beautiful fall day to turn 3! for little C's birthday, we donated a book to the local library! i thought it was a great way to give back, and teach him the kindness of giving/sharing, even on his own special day.

"Gator" is about a forgotten carousel alligator who goes on a journey to bring laughter back to the carousel and his friends. C and i read the other book to this series and i remembered him loving it...so why not add another to the library's collection.

i still can't believe that he's three. i mean, i still remember my first day with him so vividly. now he's this little man who loves Pad Thai (we celebrated his birthday with having some for lunch) and sleeps on a big boy bed. wow.

smooth talkin'

i'm still battling the sniffles (after a week i know!), so i went over to the awesome smoothie shop downstairs and they recommended me taking the smooth talking shot that's supposed to help with sore throats and get rid of mucus (YUCK!)...lemon, turmeric, and honey...

i wouldn't say that it's the best tasting thing in the world, but i think it's actually working! yea, i would recommend it. now i'm off to a local chili cookoff with some good friends. how fun! what are you doing this weekend?

we finally had that Wet Dog

i was so lucky to have gotten the chance to catch Meaghan (of Oh Ginger)and Em while they were visiting She-town. we were supposed to meet up over Wet Dogs (yummy cold espresso drink) at the local coffee shop, but it ended up taking the whole afternoon (i really wish i didn't have to work). i ended up showing the ladies my place and chit chatted for a while and it was great fun. we talked about crafting and growing up while Remy and Em became fast friends. lets do that again soon, k?

Street Fest 09

here are a couple of pictures of our booth from Saturday.

my booth mate Lauren. you can check out her stuff here!

have you ever seen a Pretty Little Fings table so packed?!?! too bad i'm terrible at updating my Etsy store (i promise a July update soon!) i made a couple of new Fings that i forgot to take good pictures of...like the Ninja Worm...but now it's all gone! don't worry though, i'll probably be making more soon, they were a lot of fun!

another reason to love Shepherdstown

because i know you guys will be coming to Shepherdstown for the Street Fest next Saturday,
i thought i'd tell you a little about what you can find here...

yesterday i had the pleasure of meeting some really nice people, a husband and wife duo and the owners of a new jewelry store in town, Plum. cute name right? it doesn't stop there! inside, you'll find an array of wonderful indie jewelry, some hand crafted by Cari right in front of your eyes!

(how neat!)
(Cari works with sterling silver and uses stamps on them. like this bracelet above!)
and on the walls, you'll see brightly colored pieces floating around the store.
that's on paint people! it's photographs by David!

(Flock by David Rosen)

intrigued? get a load of what the storefront looks like...

so simple, crisp, and beautiful!

what do you think? see you next week!

how about something that looks like it's supposed to

i've been trying to make a couple of new items for an upcoming fair (Shepherdstown Street Fest...because Handmade Mart robbed me of my inventory, in a good way!). so in honor of one of my favorite shows' season premiere (tomorrow night y'all), i made Sookie the Strawberry!!!

(i have so many lines on my hands!!!)

that's right! i'm talking about True Blood! i just started the book (and two others)!
anyone else excited?

farm fresh

this past sunday marked the first farmer's market of the year here in she-town. i absolutely love the fact that i can just walk there.

everything just looked fresh and tasty. i got us a loaf of yummy potato, herbs, & cheese bread. ah man, i made a sandwich this for dindin and it was so good.

there was even entertainment there!

this weekend they are holding it on a saturday (because of Easter) and i can't wait to go back and get some bagels and bacon!

Monday, February 2, 2009

haha

it was so muddy yesterday, i needed to give Remy a bath after our walk (around 3 pm on Super Bowl Sunday and there were already drunks walking around main street...oh She-town!).
she sure wasn't excited about it, but she sure is clean now!
