rain, rain...went away

Sunday started out not so fantastic. lots of rain was in the area and it dampened the start of Handmade Mart. J and i (and most everyone) had to put up tarp walls (or if you owned a easy up, nice white walls) to protect ourselves and the FINGS against all that water that was falling from the sky.


once it stopped though, people started to show up and things were good. i got to see lots of familiar faces (thank you return customers and friends from home!) and meet new people!

so much love

finally, i finished and sent off the photographs from the photoshoot i had with the Sloughs. did i mention that this has been my very favorite shoot so far? this family is just plain adorable. there's just so much love in their hearts and you can see it by the way they look at each other.

although i loved every.single.one. of the photographs, i did have my very favorites and i wanted to show some off to you, dear readers (is anybody out there?)...









i've looked up to Heather ever since we were young (her brother and i are good friends). so you could imagine what it was like for me to take these photographs at first...I WAS SO NERVOUS! and on top of that, i was worried that they might not love the photos as much as i do. sometimes i doubt myself and i really shouldn't have with this batch. everyone loved them, even Haiden's (the little man) Grammy loves them! i can't wait for them to have more children so i could take for photos of their beautiful family...creepy?

anyway, i hope you all enjoyed sharing time. as always, there are more on Flickr, so you could wander over there as well. goodnight!

Sew much fun

on Monday, i invited some girlfriends over for a beautiful day of crafting. i asked them to bring their sewing machine, a project, light foods for brunch, and whatever else they wanted. Ashley, Liz, and i have all known each other since grade school, but have never actual all hung out together, so this was the perfect opportunity to catch up and make things. we set up camp right in the living room, ate pigs in a blanket (thanks to Ashley) and cucumber sandwiches (thanks Liz!), listened to records, gossiped (a little, i promise!), watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and of course, a whole lot of crafting! we all decided to make bows at one point and we even took a break to bask in the sun...on my very hot roof! fun times was had by all!

Artist Love

if you haven't heard of Danny Brito, you might want to listen up. Danny is an amazing illustrator based in Miami, Florida. his works are an explosion of colors.



Danny works with acrylics and colored pencils (my favorite) on brown paper...



...and he is also a plush maker! we both had works in Stitch Wars! what a small world. oh! and check out this adorable Bear plush tutorial!

heck yes! i can't wait till i get one for our new place! now i have to go find a decent photo of J and i. ah! i LOVE his work!

Happy Valentine's Day

i hope everyone is having a good Valentine's Day. i wanted to show you a commissioned piece i just finished for my friend, Greg.



Greg asked me to make two sushi plushies that represents him and his girlfriend, Emily. his favorite sushi is the fresh crab meat asparagus and old bay roll, while her's is the spicy tuna. she has snaggles and he has a perpetual 5 o'clock shadow, so i stitched those traits onto their faces and added magnets behind their mouths so they could kiss! i topped it off with hearts stitched on the back of the sushi's with the first letters of their names on it.



i got to see them after he had given her the prezzies and she loved it! i'm so glad!

Saturday:



Tink & Mocha, my friend Susana's doggies. they were so adorable! Tink is a long haired weiner dog (so cute!!) and Mocha is a lab mix (so well behaved!).



Susana brought her boyfriend along so i took them over to the monument to enjoy the view and to get some shots of her and the pups. he was so patient and helped us out with the dogs and with bags!

Sunday:



this is Natalie from Virginia. she is a super stylish PR professional from Virginia who has just launched her own events planning and design boutique, All Buttoned-Up!



for Natalie's shoot, my friends Jess (Natalie's cousin) and Meghan came with me to help out. they were acting as our assistants and stylists. helping me with making Natalie smile and helping Natalie with wardrobe changes. i have to give props to Jess for finding this incredible frame. good eyes!

My Body's a Zombie for YOU!

i'm obsessed with Dead Man's Bones...and Ryan Gosling, their lead singer. (yes, he can grow a beard). J and i braved the cold rain and the streets of DC to go see them last Saturday at the 6th & I Historic Synagogue. it was so worth it except the part where the streets we needed to be on to get to the Synagogue were blocked off, making us miss the first part of the show...the part where they played my favorite song...our luck, right?...but we did get to hear my other favorite song, "My Body's a Zombie for You."

anywho, we had a great time. we sat behind some girls on the balcony who were REALLY trying to get Ryan Gosling's attention and waited in the rain for him to come out for a meet and greet...which didn't happen. i did get some good shots though.

(the band was backed by the Silverlake Children's Choir. they were terrific!)

Dead Man's Bones

i love Dead Man's Bones and their old horror movie feel/sound. been listening to their stuff all day (full album comes out Tuesday!!! woo!). they are officially my new favorite band thanks to J. and if i play my cards right, i will be seeing them live REAL soon.

Happy 3rd Birthday!

what a beautiful fall day to turn 3! for little C's birthday, we donated a book to the local library! i thought it was a great way to give back, and teach him the kindness of giving/sharing, even on his own special day.

"Gator" is about a forgotten carousel alligator who goes on a journey to bring laughter back to the carousel and his friends. C and i read the other book to this series and i remembered him loving it...so why not add another to the library's collection.

i still can't believe that he's three. i mean, i still remember my first day with him so vividly. now he's this little man who loves Pad Thai (we celebrated his birthday with having some for lunch) and sleeps on a big boy bed. wow.

skydiving

i think i might have mentioned that i was going skydiving on Labor Day...well, that didn't happen and we got clouded out. luckily, we rescheduled for last Sunday and it ended up being a perfect day! blue skies and the weather was just down right beautiful! here are a few pictures from the day.

ok, so we got clouded out for our scheduled skydiving thingy on Monday (rescheduling in the future)...but J and i went to the Kings of Leon concert on Tuesday! our lawn spot was so perfect and the rain held off until the end of the concert so we lucked out. it was an amazing show. they played all of the songs that i was hoping to hear (lots of their older stuff) and the sound was perfect!! can't wait til they come back around again!

sick = productive

i have a hard time sitting still. it has finally taken me getting sick to sit on my butt (or lay down in this case) and taking it easy. after about an hour of laying in my bed watching a movie, i got restless and started crafting. here's what i finished, the last part to my cousin's three part prezzie.
